As a leading Croatian manufacturer of children’s footwear, our parent company Ivančica has set science-based targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in line with the latest scientific recommendations and the Paris Agreement. The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has officially approved our short-term science-based emission reduction target, confirming our commitment to placing climate responsibility at the core of our operations.
With support from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and expert collaboration with Oikon d.o.o., the Institute for Applied Ecology, we conducted our first carbon footprint analysis for the reference year 2021. The analysis revealed that approximately 93% of emissions come from Scope 3, including emissions from the wider value chain, such as transportation and distribution in upstream and downstream parts of the chain, material procurement, and disposal of products after use.
On the other hand, Scope 2 emissions make up just 0.01% of our total emissions, thanks to our use of 100% renewable energy in production processes. These emissions are exclusively related to leased business premises.
We have committed to reducing emissions in line with the SBTi methodology. Taking into account the rising energy costs, the setting of emission reduction targets aligned with the transition to a sustainable economy, and limiting global warming to 1.5°C, as outlined in the Paris Agreement and the "Fit for 55%" package, we consider this to be a responsible and strategically justified step. These targets will be integrated into our Sustainability Strategy through to 2030.
"This is a significant step forward for our company and proof of our commitment to sustainable development. We are proud to inspire other companies to join the global fight against climate change," our Management Board emphasized.
The project was realized with the support of the EBRD, which highlights the importance of involving small and medium-sized enterprises in global climate goals, and donor support from InvestEU. Oikon d.o.o., the region's leading consulting firm and applied ecology institute, provided expert support to us through an interdisciplinary approach to achieving corporate sustainability.
Alignment with the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) is becoming crucial for companies of all sizes. Carbon footprint analysis and the SBTi methodology are increasingly significant tools for achieving these goals and for the rapid and strong reduction of emissions necessary to limit the global temperature rise to 1.5°C.
